At Fast Vision we do not call our outdoor displays durable on the strength of a datasheet. This field incident tested the specification under conditions that cannot be arranged in advance, and confirmed what we say about the quality of what we supply and install.
The Brief and the Installation
We supplied and installed an interactive outdoor display for the drive-thru lane of a restaurant, specified to withstand harsh climate conditions and continuous round-the-clock interactive use. The requirement was not simply a screen that works outdoors, but a system that stays legible in direct sunlight, sealed against dust and moisture, and capable of uninterrupted operation in a lane that never stops.
The Incident
The display and its metal base took a direct, high-force impact from a four-wheel-drive vehicle, which tore the concrete base out of the ground and brought the entire display structure down onto the pavement. An impact of that severity would normally end with a completely replaced display and a service lane closed while awaiting supply.
The Technical Outcome
Continuous operation: neither the electronic panel nor the display system was affected by the impact. The screen carried on showing the menu and data at full performance despite the fall. Build quality and protection: the treated outer housing and the vandal-proof impact-resistant glass proved able to protect the sensitive internal components from total failure, absorbing the impact energy instead of transferring it into the panel. Business continuity: the site avoided the loss that comes with a stopped ordering lane, thanks to the durability of the hardware, and its primary revenue line stayed open.
