The Challenge | التحدي
This screen is not fixed to the wall of an existing building but to a stage facade designed in a Najdi architectural style, with stepped parapets and ornament. The supporting structure had no concrete backing to rest against and had to carry the full weight of twenty-four cabinets on its own, above an area where an audience stands directly beneath. Mounting safety here is not a technical line item; it is a condition of operating the venue. The second challenge is exposure. The screen sits outdoors in Hafar Al Batin — heat, wind and dust across the whole season — and has to stay legible in daylight and after dark alike, running without interruption throughout the event days with no permanent technician on site. The third is timing. The work took place on an event site still being fitted out, against a fixed opening date that could not move, so much of it was carried out at night in parallel with the other trades working across the plaza. الشاشة هنا ليست مثبّتة على جدار مبنى قائم، بل على واجهة مسرح مصمّمة بطراز معماري نجدي بشرفات وزخارف — أي أن الهيكل الحامل لا يجد خلفه بنية خرسانية يستند إليها، وكان عليه أن يحمل وزن أربعة وعشرين كبينة كاملاً بنفسه، فوق مساحة يقف تحتها جمهور مباشرة. سلامة التثبيت هنا ليست بنداً فنياً، بل شرط تشغيل الموقع. التحدي الثاني أن الشاشة خارجية في حفر الباطن — حرارة ورياح وغبار على مدار الموسم — ولا بد أن تبقى مقروءة تحت ضوء النهار وفي المساء معاً، وأن تعمل بلا انقطاع طوال أيام الفعالية دون وجود فني دائم في الموقع. والتحدي الثالث أن العمل جرى في موقع فعالية قيد التجهيز وبمواعيد افتتاح محدّدة سلفاً لا تقبل التأجيل، فنُفّذ جزء كبير منه ليلاً بالتوازي مع بقية أعمال التجهيز في الساحة.
The Solution | الحل
The supporting structure: a steel structure was fabricated specifically for the facade opening and fixed within the stage build, sized to carry the load of all twenty-four cabinets while holding the screen face in one straight plane, with rear clearance left for maintenance access without removing cabinets from the front. The display surface: Hikvision DS-D4239CF-1AAB cabinets from the 1AAB outdoor series, assembled in a grid covering 6.00 × 4.00 metres. The 3.9 mm pitch was selected for the actual viewing distances in an open plaza, where part of the audience sits metres from the stage while others stand at the back — fine enough for the front rows, and bright enough for content to read in direct daylight. Control and playback: a Hikvision DS-D42B04-N four-port NovaStar controller and a Hikvision DS-D60C-B network media player, housed in a 9U outdoor equipment rack that protects them from dust and heat while keeping them accessible for operation on site. The screen was handed over with two spare modules so that any module needing replacement during the season can be swapped immediately rather than waiting on supply. الهيكل الحامل: صُنّع هيكل حديدي خصيصاً لفتحة الواجهة، مثبّت داخل بنية المسرح بحيث يستوعب حمل الكبائن الأربع والعشرين ويبقى وجه الشاشة في مستوٍ واحد مستقيم، مع ترك مسافة خلفية تتيح الوصول للصيانة دون فكّ الكبائن من الأمام. سطح العرض: كبائن Hikvision DS-D4239CF-1AAB من سلسلة 1AAB المخصّصة للاستخدام الخارجي، مركّبة في شبكة تغطي 6.00 × 4.00 متر. واختيرت كثافة 3.9 مم بما يناسب مسافة المشاهدة الفعلية في ساحة مفتوحة يجلس فيها الجمهور على بُعد أمتار من المسرح ويقف آخرون في عمق الساحة — فهي دقيقة بما يكفي للصفوف الأمامية، وبسطوع يكفي لقراءة المحتوى تحت ضوء النهار المباشر. التحكّم والتشغيل: متحكّم Hikvision DS-D42B04-N بأربعة منافذ NovaStar ومشغّل وسائط شبكي Hikvision DS-D60C-B، موضوعان داخل خزانة معدات خارجية مقاس 9U تحمي الأجهزة من الغبار والحرارة وتُبقيها في متناول التشغيل من الموقع. وسُلّمت الشاشة مع موديولين احتياطيين ليكون الاستبدال فورياً إن احتاجه أي موديول أثناء الموسم، بدل انتظار توريد
Execution | التنفيذ
Work began with preparing the facade opening, installing the steel structure and setting its alignment and levels before a single cabinet was hung, followed by power feeds, data routes and the outdoor equipment rack. Cabinets were then installed row by row with edge alignment checked at every joint, the controller and media player connected, the screen brought online, and every module tested individually through a numbered test grid covering the full surface before moving to calibration. Colour and brightness were then calibrated across the whole facade under the plaza's actual night lighting, content was loaded, and the site handed over ready for opening. بدأ العمل بتجهيز فتحة الواجهة وتركيب الهيكل الحديدي وضبط استوائه ومنسوبه قبل تعليق أي كبينة، ثم مدّ التغذية الكهربائية ومسارات البيانات وتركيب خزانة المعدات الخارجية. تلا ذلك تركيب الكبائن صفاً صفاً مع ضبط تطابق الحواف عند كل تماس، ثم توصيل المتحكّم ومشغّل الوسائط وتشغيل الشاشة واختبار كل موديول على حدة عبر شبكة اختبار مرقّمة تغطي السطح كاملاً قبل الانتقال إلى المعايرة. وانتهى العمل بمعايرة اللون والسطوع على كامل الواجهة في ظرف الإضاءة الليلية الفعلية للساحة، ثم تشغيل المحتوى وتسليم الموقع جاهزاً للافتتاح.
Results | النتيجة
A stage facade turned into a 24 m² digital display surface visible from across the plaza — carrying event content, sponsors and live feed throughout the season, updated digitally instead of through printed backdrops replaced between acts. The facade carries the screen on a structure built for it alone, with no alteration to the architectural character of the venue. واجهة مسرح تحوّلت إلى سطح عرض رقمي بمساحة 24 متراً مربعاً يُشاهَد من الساحة كاملة — يعرض محتوى الفعالية والرعاة والبث المباشر طوال الموسم، ويُحدَّث رقمياً بدل الخلفيات المطبوعة التي تُستبدل مع كل فقرة. وتحمل الواجهة الشاشة بهيكل مصنّع لها وحدها، بلا أي تعديل على الطابع المعماري للموقع.
